Joyce Carolyn returns to PAUSA before the year ends.
Joyce Carolyn is known especially for her portrayals of other singers, particularly Billie Holiday. Reviewer Ben Siegel admired her performance four years ago in “Lady Day At Emerson’s Bar and Grill” at the Paul Robeson Theatre: “Where many resort to impersonation, Carolyn gives her interpretation of that raspy, caged voice.” Two years before that, she sang a tribute to Nina Simone, and The News’ Colin Dabkowski noted some shining moments. She also has sung for The News’ Jazz at the Albright-Knox concert series. Yet another News reviewer, Joseph Popiolkowski, called her a “showstopper.”
